Sabrina, an OSU student and McDonald’s crew member, has been granted behind the scenes access to each of the major events of McDonald’s All American Week.

POWERADE Jam Fest – March 29, 2010

Tonight was the POWERADE Jam Fest and I had the most amazing seats in the house! I sat right on the court at a media table, the absolute closest I could be to the action. Everyone is excited to see the players and they all put on a great show. We watched as they battled it out over the three-point shoot out. Maggie Lucas for the girl’s team dominated the entire competition with 22 points!

Next the players went through a timed obstacle course of weaving and shooting where the fastest player won. The best boy’s player completed the entire course perfectly in 25 seconds. They even had a crowd member win a chance to try and complete the course in under a minute to win a plasma TV and he did it!

To give the players a little break Cupid came out to do his famous song, “The Cupid Shuffle,” and it was a lot of fun to watch the players get out with him and dance to the music.

Finally the main event came: the dunk contest. It was pretty outrageous to see how talented and creative these players were, just like the pros! I saw everything from coming from behind the hoop around to drunk, to catching the ball from the side of the backboard and dunking. I could tell these players had definitely put some thought into this and had a really good time with each other. Ray McCallum really stood out with his performance and had one of the top scores of the night. The entire night was a ton of fun and really was a great intro to the main event on Wednesday at the All-American games.

Its that time again. Time for the Arnold Sports Festival.

With 44 sports and events, including 12 Olympic sports, the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival presents fitness and fun for all ages March 4-7. The festival has expanded into the world’s largest multi-sport fitness weekend since its 1989 beginning as The Arnold Classic as a one-day professional men’s bodybuilding competition.

About 170,000 sports fans are expected to see 18,000 athletes compete in a variety of more than 40 sports and events at five premier venues: the Greater Columbus Convention Center, Franklin County Veterans Memorial, LC Pavilion, Nationwide Arena and the Dispatch Ice Haus. At the popular three-day Arnold Fitness EXPO packed audiences enjoy 700 fitness-related booths and ongoing stage entertainment.

Many Arnold Sports Festival participants are youth competing in archery, boxing, cheerleading and dance, dancesport, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, martial arts, skateboarding, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. Top student athletes compete for one of nine $2,000 college scholarships presented by the Columbus Rotary and the Arnold Sports Festival.

Olympic Sports: The Arnold Sports Festival is a proving ground for many aspiring athletes. Former Olympians and Olympic hopefuls will appear or compete in 12 Olympic Sports: archery, boxing, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, judo, karate, running, table tennis, tae kwon do, weightlifting, and wrestling.

* Arnold Figure Skating Exhibition is scheduled Saturday in the Dispatch Ice Haus
* Arnold Amateur Strongman will bring 50 of the world’s top amateurs to compete in a new event separate from the professionals in the Arnold Strongman Classic
* Art at the Arnold where artists compete in a drawing and painting competition
* Skateboarding competition
* Amateur MMA Festival
* Arnold Sports Photo Workshop
* Ohio Senior Olympics competitions added to the Active Living Festival
* CrossFit multisport event that promotes overall physical fitness

GOkickball is a social co-ed adult kickball league in Columbus where games are played at local Columbus parks. People of any athletic ability get together for fun with old and new friends on the field and afterwards socializing at league bars and events.

Spring Season starts March 27 – May 15. Games will be played on Saturday (McKinley Park near Grandview) & Thursday (Antrim Park).  Cost is $49 for 8 weeks of games, season tournament, post-game socializing at bar sponsor, t-shirts, etc.

America’s best divers will be competing for national titles in the 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, 10-meter platform, synchronized 3-meter springboard and synchronized 10-meter platform events. Divers were invited to participate in the quarterfinal rounds of the Winter Nationals based on performances at previous competitions. Additional divers may participate in the preliminary rounds and attempt to qualify through to the quarterfinal rounds. Results from the individual 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform events will be used to select the divers that will represent the United States at the 17th FINA Diving World Cup (June 2-6 in Changzhou, CHN) and the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix (May 6-9 in Fort Lauderdale).

This Sunday, November 15th from noon until 6:00 p.m., why not head down to the Nationwide arena where you can rub elbows with some of your favorite Blue Jackets players and personalities in a fun, casual setting. There will be no checking on Sunday and you’ll be helping the Blue Jackets Foundation!

The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that works in partnership with the National Hockey League club.

The Foundation is dedicated to using its unique resources to raise public awareness and financial support for essential and timely initiatives that represent our four recognized pillars of giving – pediatric cancer, children’s health & safety, education and the development of youth hockey.

Many of you, I’m sure, still remember the Craig Krenzel days of football. Maybe the time he helped OSU to a big win against Miami in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl National Championship Game while also maintaining a 3.75 GPA in Molecular Genetics? Yeah, that guy. Craig is coming back to his old haunt here on the Ohio State campus and taking some time to meet some Buckeye football nuts. He’ll be stopping by College Town book store at 1770 North High Street on Saturday, September 26th from 11:30-1:30 and ALSO on Saturday, October 10th, 4 hours before the game.

Oh… and Go Bucks!

Every year at this time I ask myself the same questions. Who did we lose to the NFL? How does Ohio State stack up against other great teams in the NCAA? What are we ranked in the preseason? Who is stepping up to fill a gap in the line up?

Then I remind myself that every year someone does step up. Someone does fill the gap. And in the end we have a great season of incredible college football. This year I am anticipating big things from the Buckeyes. We have an incredible quarterback and leader in Terrelle Pryor. We have an incredible coaching staff that always find ways to get the job done with the talent on the field. And like always, new talent steps up that we’ve yet to be introduced to. That is one of the most exciting things to me as we get ready to kick things off for another year of Ohio State Football.

So get your block O flags out and show your support as The Ohio State Buckeyes ready themselves to take the field tomorrow at noon when they take on the midshipmen of the Naval Academy.
