That’s what you have to ask yourself the next time you order a pizza from Columbus-based Donatos Pizza. They are rolling out a new pie that is a more traditional “pie cut” hand tossed pizza with a bit of a sweeter sauce, spicier pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. Quite a bit different from their famous thin crust, edge to edge pizza that is cut into squares and uses a thicker-sliced smaller pepperoni and provolone cheese.
I had the opportunity to sit down with Donatos founder, Jim Grote and key members of senior management to try the new hand tossed pie. In fact I didn’t just try it, I got to go in the test kitchen and make one of these delicious pizzas.

Donatos Hand Tossed Pizza will join the company’s signature Edge-to-Edge® thin and thicker crusts. Customers can get any of their favorite signature topping combinations, such as Founder’s Favorite® or The Works®, on the new hand-crafted crust. The addition will make ordering pizza easier for those families divided on crust – with some family members devoted to thin crust and others fanatical for Hand Tossed. If you like, you can also select the dipping sauce of their choice to accompany the pizza – sweet Italian marinara or buttery garlic.
Donatos Pizza, founded in 1963 by Jim Grote, is family-owned and operated, and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
