The 48 Hour Film Project

A 48 hour film contest where you get to write, shoot and edit a short film. Did I mention you have to do it all in just 48 short hours? That’s exactly what 36 teams in Columbus were doing August 15th and 16th. This is the second year Columbus has participated in the competition and it seems it will only gain more popularity each year. The 48 hour film tour consisted of 53 US cities this year.

So you may be wondering, what would stop a team from starting earlier?  Well, that’s a good question. Each competition has certain elements that have to be present in all films. Then to make it even trickier, you are given a unique genre.

This years elements
Character: Becky or Morgan Frank, Writer
Prop: A large plant
Line of Dialogue: “That’s better than what happened to me.”

The finished films were all turned in on Sunday evening, and on Wednesday and Thursday, August 19th & 20th….all films were shown during group screenings at the Landmark Gateway Theater on the OSU campus.

The crowd each evening was filled with appreciative film team members, friends and family. Everyone came out to support one another, and the mood was definitely fun and filled with much spontaneous applause and shout-outs.

Now for a special treat

This year, Greatest City author Kelly Gingery participated on director Jonathan Nininger’s team as an actress. This was Kelly’s first-time being involved with the 48 Hour Film Project, and her “big-screen” debut.

The film titled Agent Rx was detective genre. It takes place in the possible near-future, and concerns some interesting pills…and the people who take –or don’t take them.  Kelly portrays the mother of a family that just can’t quite seem to communicate.  For your viewing pleasure, here it is:
