Movies Under The Stars: One Of My New Favorite Things!

I love movies.

In fact, I have a T-shirt that says: “I like to eat popcorn in the dark with total strangers.”

Well, the shirt refers to my love of seeing movies in the theater, as they were intended.  But guess what?  I’ve recently become enamored with an entirely different movie-watching experience. Screenings under the stars.

Yep, I now know that on a cool summer evening….there’s nuthin’ quite like watching a fab film under the stars with a fun crowd, some good friends and a few choice snacks & beverages.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention….these fun flicks are FREE!

In response to a recent request from a Greatest City Of All Twitter follower, I thought I would share info on some of the upcoming outdoor films that you will be able to enjoy at various spots around Columbus.

Movies By Moonlight Series – Easton Town Center

Bring a blanket and bucket of popcorn and head to Easton Town Square for movies under the stars.  Their summer outdoor movie series features favorites for the whole family.

The flicks are shown each Tuesday evening, now through August 25th.  The movies begin at dusk.

Upcoming Films:

Tuesday August 11The Goonies

TheGoonies

It’s excitement all the way as Steven Spielberg and Richard Donner, the makers of ‘Indiana Jones’, ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Superman’, combine forces to create great family fun.  They call themselves “The Goonies.” The secret caves. The old lighthouse. The lost map. The treacherous traps. The hidden treasure….and Sloth. Join the adventure.

Tuesday August 18Grease

grease2020soundtrack2

Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fell in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? “Grease is the word” in one of the most popular musicals ever, with memorable performances from John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and a stellar supporting cast of characters.  Come ready to sing-along to your favorite Grease hits!

Tuesday August 25Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite of what the principal thinks of that.  Yep, while the rest of us were just thinking about it…Ferris borrowed a Ferrari and did it…all in a day.  Matthew Broderick truly shines in his performance as the risk-taking Ferris, the guy who we all wish was our best friend in high school.

Wex Drive In Series

There is one film remaining in the Wex Drive In summer movie series. Go early to choose your spot on the Wexner Center Plaza (bring blankets or lawn chairs) and mingle with other film fans. You can also enjoy free popcorn and Jeni’s ice cream, and choose your favorite beverage from the cash bar. The party gets going at 8 PM. The films themselves begin at dusk, around 9 PM.

Thursday, August 2oth — Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Coen brothers’ Depression-era comedy led to a resurgence in the popularity of American folk music. Loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey, the film follows three escaped convicts (George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson, and John Turturro) as they try to retrieve a hidden fortune from a past heist. Songs include Alison Krauss’s “Down to the River to Pray,” Krauss and Gillian Welch’s “I’ll Fly Away,” and Ralph Stanley’s “O Death.”

Hmmm….with flick choices like these, sounds like I’ll be spendin’ some fun upcoming evenings under the stars. Bring your blankets and bug spray folks…and I’ll see y’all at the movies!
