I imagine that vendors don't want to take credit cards because of the fees associated with doing so. I rarely carry cash with me either, and prefer credit cards, but that hassle can be avoiding by just hitting the bank on the way over there. ;) There are ATMs for just about every bank imaginable along High Street within a short walk.
